Rowing Instruction
One-on-one coaching and video review for beginners to advanced.
Whether you are an experienced rower or new to the sport, anyone can learn to row better. You will progress more quickly under the eye of someone who has already been through the learning curve. Video of each session helps both of us understand what is going well and what could benefit from improvement. The camera never lies.
I got my first competitive coaching in 2005 and nineteen years later, I have enjoyed competing at Masters National Championships, in the US and Canada, and at the World Masters Rowing Championships.
If you are already an experienced rower in search of a technique tune-up, book an hour or two and I can capture video that will show you everything you are doing right, and then some. If you are a never-ever rower, let me get you started the right way.
You came to the right place.
Colorado is blessed with still, flat water in every corner. Once you are comfortable in a single, you can take a race or recreational shell nearly anywhere there is safe access and enjoy a non-impact workout while you explore natural areas many people never see. Or, take a double and share it.
You've always wanted to try rowing. You guessed there was something both tranquil and exhilarating about it.
Well, you were right. And the better you get, the more fun it is.
Kenneth Grahame:
"Nice? It's the only thing," said the Water Rat solemnly as he leant forward for his stroke. "Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing—absolute nothing—half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats."
Individual Lessons Available
My approach to rowing is building stability and confidence first, and then refining technique for speed and distance. I specialize in getting novice or first-time male or female rowers comfortable in a boat, so they can build strength, endurance and conditioning. Once you are comfortable, we refine technique and build speed and endurance.
Fees: $75/hour and $105/hour-and-a-half.
Boat rental fee of $25 added for instruction
to non-club members.
One-On-One Personal Training
Lessons in the Denver area originate out of the Rocky Mountain Rowing Club boathouse, on Cherry Creek Reservoir, in Cherry Creek State Park. The RMRC offers membership at a reasonable fees if you decide to join, and season passes are available to the State park.
Boats of all shapes and sizes
My students have access to a full slate of sweep and sculling boats. If you join the RMRC, you can row singles, doubles and pairs, quads, 4's and an eight. Access is available throughout the day, from April until November, all day long. Become a member and you can
skip the rental fee.
Video Review
Visualization is one of the most powerful learning tools. By capturing and sharing video of your on-water training, we can review what needs work and what has already moved into muscle memory.
I came to this incredible sport later in life, so I remember the awkward, clumsy feeling of trying to balance 175 pounds over an 11-inch wide hull, using oars the size of vaulting poles. There are all sorts of tricks I learned along the way for stability, confidence and speed. Let me shave some time off your learning curve.
About Me
After years of watching top level rowers I've realized what to look for in technique. Most of the time it is obvious, sometimes, not so much. But the camera never blinks, and being able to take a stroke apart frame by frame reveals details that often escape the casual viewer.
